Updating My Hutch

I have been living in my new house for a month and little by little I'm settling in. Adding little touches here and there, turning this little space into our "home". One of the spaces I have been working on is my kitchen hutch. I picked it up a few months ago at a great price and I have played with arrangements on it a few times and not quite feeling the "wow" factor.

You might remember this arrangement and I had asked for any and all suggestions........(This was at the old house)

One of the changes I have made to the hutch is to paint the back a very light buttery yellow. (It's a little hard to tell in the photo) I think it helps in showcasing some of the white dishes I have displayed.

I added some of my cookbooks and one of my favorite roosters as a bookend.

Some of my favorite pieces .....white pitcher, bunny jar, grapevine rooster and cloche with a white ceramic pear I added to the top of the hutch.

These shutters I picked up at a yard sale and painted them my new favorite shade of green and added them to the side of the hutch.

I'm still not completely happy with the look.......but I like it a lot better than the "before". What do you think?? Any and all suggestions are welcomed.
Until Later,
~Toni~

  1. Hi Toni,
I'm glad you're getting settled in your new place. I think the changes you made to the hutch look great. I like the painted background and I LOVE the shutters on the side in that wonderful green.
One of the things I love about hutches is that you can change them out easily when the mood strikes creating an entirely new look.

  4. Hi Toni!!!
I can see the pretty yellow inside and love it! Have you thought about changing the top treasures..maybe put the larger item in the middle to balance your pretties? The shutters are so cool. You have great ideas!
Have a GREAT weekend...hope you find some treasures!
    Warmly,
    Deb :)

  5. I see the pretty yellow inside the hutch and love the transformation. Love the shutters on the side (great idea). If you hang the shutters upside down, the slats would work to hold notes, pictures, mail.
    Have fun. It is beautiful.
